Literacy Lighthouse

English teachers illuminating a path to literacy

Nings allow us to form our own social network, a place where like-minded individuals can connect to share, discuss, debate, collaborate, create. It is my hope that Literacy Lighthouse will connect high school English teachers around the globe.

The 21st Century demands our students be able to read and evaluate texts in a multitude of genres and formats, that they can communicate and collaborate both face-to-face and virtually using a myriad of digital tools, that they can think critically and creatively as they write, produce, publish to global audiences. Facing such demanding expectations, we teachers need to utilize all the digital tools available to help us continue to hone our pedagogy, to search for resources and strategies to maximize the all-too-brief time we have with our students.

I hope you'll join us, and enter the conversation as we explore--together--ideas for equipping our students for the demands of the 21st Century.

If you're new to ning, here are a few tips to get you started:
  • Become a member by clicking "Sign Up" in the box on the top right of main page.
  • Create or join a group.
  • Create or join a discussion in the forum.
  • Write a blog post.
  • Read and comment on other blog posts by other members.
  • Subscribe to RSS feeds to stay abreast of new information added. You can subscribe on the main page to latest additions to the entire ning. You can also subscribe to more specific feeds; you might subscribe to a group, to a particular member's blog, to your own blog to track new comments. Just look for the RSS icons throughout the site.
  • Grab a ning badge and add it to your blog, wiki, or other web page to advertise the site and help grow our ning.

Help me grow our ning by including it on your own blog or wiki and advertising the site to your English teacher friends. I look forward to friendships and productive collaborations.

I think it would be wonderful. Who better for them to learn from/alongside?
